Welcome to my webpage! Allow me to share a little bit about myself. My name is Santiago Matute and I am a professional pianist. I have an extreme passion for music and I express that best through piano. I mostly play classical piano; however, I also enjoy playing different genres such as contemporary, modern, pop, Latin, jazz and even some improvisation.
I have participated in multiple competitions such as the Young Artist Competition and placed second in both the North Carolina Federation of Music Clubs and the Charlotte Piano Teacher’s Forum on two separate occasions. I have received an international recognition in the National Guild of Piano Teachers and participated in the Annual Festa Italiana for the past three years.
I hope you enjoy your tour of my webpage and I look forward to hearing from you!
I was born on September 23rd, 2000 in Manhattan, New York. My family was not really inclined to being a musician, but my father plays and sings the guitar. At about 8 years old, I self taught myself to play the drums, and began playing as a drummer. I quickly learned to play by ear, and was never taught. It was then I discovered my talent and love for music. I played drums for my church at 8, and played for a couple of years. Then, with the basic fundamentals of rhythm, I began to play piano. My parents quickly saw my growing gift of music, so they invested in private piano lessons for me. Later, I became the piano player for my church as well. After learning piano, then I learned how to play the bass, and lastly guitar.
Recently, I participated in the Young Artist Competition, established in 1955 in partnership with the Charlotte Symphony Orchestra. They host this competition every year and students from grades 7-12 can participate in it. Students compete in categories of piano, strings, winds, and percussion. The judges decide a category winner from the four different orchestral categories, and an overall Grand Prize Winner. The Grand Prize Winner from the Junior grade level (7-9) performs with the Charlotte Symphony Youth Orchestra on May 15, 2016, and the Grand Prize winner from the Senior grade level (10-12) performs with the Charlotte Symphony at the Annual Youth Festival February 10, 2016. I won the Grand Prize in the Junior category last Saturday, January 30, 2016.
